Agartala, May 23, 2025: The mysterious murder of nine-year-old Ujjashikha Tripura has taken a dramatic turn as police led by SDPO Nityananda Sarkar on late Thursday night arrested her elder brother 18-year-old Sahel Tripura in connection with the case. The deceased’s mother Sabita Tripura has also been detained for questioning.
Ujjashikha, a resident of Kaladhepa Nalsing Sardar Para under the Manubazar police station in the Sabroom subdivision of South Tripura district had gone missing on May 21 around 4 PM. Despite frantic searches by family and locals, she could not be located that day. The next morning i.e. on May 22, her dead body was found in a rubber garden adjacent to her home, sparking widespread shock and outrage in the area.
“The body was immediately sent for post-mortem after recovery,” confirmed a police officer from Manubazar police station. “We are investigating all possible angles. Based on preliminary evidence, the girl’s brother was taken into custody and interrogated overnight. The mother is also being questioned,” the officer added.
The parents of the deceased have maintained from the outset that their daughter was murdered. The gruesome nature of the incident has deeply unsettled the local community.
In a show of solidarity, a delegation from the All India Democratic Women’s Association (AIDWA) visited the victim’s family today. “We are deeply saddened by this tragic loss. We demand that the police ensure a thorough and unbiased investigation, and that the guilty are brought to justice without delay,” said a representative of AIDWA.
