Kohima, Feb 13: The All Nagaland Ad Hoc Teachers Group (ANATG) 2015 batch escalated their ongoing protest by shifting their hunger strike to the Directorate of School Education (DoSE) on Friday. The strike, now in its ninth day overall and third day of hunger strike, seeks the regularisation of services for 1,166 members.

The move follows the government’s inability to provide a definite timeline or policy regarding the teachers’ demands. The protests initially began on February 4.

At the DoSE premises, teachers displayed banners and placards while raising slogans demanding immediate action. They emphasized their years of service, qualifications, and cleared tests, yet pending regularisation.

The Directorate urged the teachers on Thursday night to end the strike and resume duties, citing concerns over disruption to students’ schooling. Principal Director Shashank Pratap Singh acknowledged the contributions of ad hoc teachers, particularly in remote areas, while expressing “grave concern” over the ongoing disruption.

The DoSE letter mentioned that the teachers’ demands are under active consideration, including high-level meetings and a Personnel & Administrative Reforms Department request for documents of 235 employees for screening. ANATG-2015 rejected the proposal to halt the strike, insisting on comprehensive regularisation for all 1,166 members. Further consultations among members will determine the next course of action.
