The Nagaland Baptist Church Council (NBCC) has vehemently opposed the declaration of Christian holy days as working days, following a notification issued by Nagaland University (NU).

The notification, which initially declared Good Friday and Easter Sunday as working days, was met with swift backlash from the NBCC, prompting its revocation.

Addressing the issue, NBCC General Secretary Rev Dr. Zelhou Keyho issued a statement expressing concern over the initial notification and its potential implications.

“Though the notification was revoked, the damage had been done,” remarked Rev Dr. Keyho, emphasizing the need for accountability from the university.

He further highlighted the importance of cultural sensitivity, stating that such actions open a window of suspicion and require explanation from the university.

While acknowledging the cancellation of the controversial notification, Rev Dr. Keyho stressed the necessity for proactive responses to ensure that similar incidents do not occur in the future.

“It is pertinent that such notifications should be responded to let the university know that such things would never be allowed in a Christian majority society,” he asserted.

The NBCC’s stance underscores the significance of respecting religious traditions and ensuring inclusivity within educational institutions.
