Kohima, May 29: Nagaland Chief Secretary Dr J Alam, IAS, held a review meeting on May 28, 2025, to assess the progress of the Nagaland Solar Mission, which is being implemented in convergence with the central government’s rooftop solar scheme — PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana (PMSG: MBY). The meeting took place at the Chief Secretary’s Conference Hall in the Nagaland Civil Secretariat.
Senior officials present included Commissioner & Secretary for Power, Asangla Imti, NCS; Additional Chief Engineer (D&R); and Team Leader of the Nagaland Solar Mission, Er. Lobosang, along with officials from the Power Department.
During the meeting, Dr Alam highlighted the need for intensive public awareness campaigns to ensure greater participation in the scheme. He instructed officials to enhance the accessibility and user-friendliness of the online portal by using simple language and attractive features to help more residents register and benefit from the programme.
Providing an update, Er. Lobosang stated that smart meters will be provided free of cost to consumers installing rooftop solar panels. The smart pre-paid meters, which are compatible with net-metering, will be provided under the Revamped Distribution Sector Scheme (RDSS). Consumers will only be required to pay the standard meter rent as per the tariff notification.
The Nagaland Solar Mission aims to promote rooftop solar panel installations across residential households in the state. Interested consumers can register and access information through the official portal: www.pmsuryaghar.gov.in.
