Kohima, Apr 17: The Nagaland Forest Management Project (NFMP) has successfully reached 144 villages out of its target of 185 across the state. This update was shared by Dr. Sevono Seletsu, Divisional Forest Officer and Head of the Divisional Management Unit (DMU) Kohima, during the Annual Review Meeting of DMU Kohima held in Kohima on Wednesday.
Dr. Seletsu highlighted the significance of PEC Model areas and urged Joint Forest Management Committee (JFMC) members to focus on conserving community lands and restoring degraded lands.
EAC (Development) Moasunep K. Jingru expressed confidence in the project’s ongoing progress and encouraged JFMC members to understand and embrace the objectives of NFMP. These include reducing jhum cultivation, prioritizing forest conservation, and preventing forest fires.
In the Kohima Division, the NFMP is actively operating in 13 villages across Chiephobozou and Tseminyu.
