Nagaland’s Education Advisor, Kekhrielhoulie Yhome, has affirmed that the government’s teacher transfer process will continue despite facing opposition and challenges. He reassured that exceptional cases would be handled with sensitivity.

Earlier this month, the Nagaland Department of School Education initiated the transfer of over 1,600 teachers as part of a rationalisation effort to address staffing shortages in rural and underserved areas. The transfer involved 278 mathematics and science graduate teachers, 840 primary teachers, 341 graduate teachers, and 191 Hindi teachers.

Yhome explained that the aim of the transfer process is to balance teacher distribution, ensuring quality education for students across both urban and rural areas. However, he acknowledged that the process has been complicated by personal challenges faced by some teachers, including health issues and family responsibilities.

Despite opposition from student bodies and concerns over the lack of proper groundwork, Yhome emphasized that the process would continue, with the department addressing specific concerns on a case-by-case basis.

“The ultimate goal is to ensure the best education for all students, and we are committed to resolving any challenges that arise,” he stated.
