Advisor for IPR and Soil & Water Conservation, Imkong L. Imchen, on Monday commissioned the Command and Control Centre (CCC) at the Directorate of Soil & Water Conservation, Kohima. The Centre is funded by the Ministry of Agriculture & Farmers Welfare, Government of India, and the Government of Nagaland under the Soil Health and Fertility component of RKVY.

The CCC is a technology-driven hub designed to centralize and analyse data, providing real-time insights on crop and soil conditions. It enables farmers to interact directly with officials for authentic guidance. Farmers can reach the Centre through the toll-free number +91 7965192504 for queries related to soil health and fertility.

Speaking after the commissioning, Imchen emphasized the importance of such a Centre to support field staff and farmers in decision-making, identifying challenges related to soil and crops, and bridging the gap between experts and farmers. He urged field officers and farmers to foster trust to reflect the Department’s commitment to adopting innovative technologies for sustainable soil and water management. Imchen also noted that the department faces resource constraints due to low annual budget allocation from the state government, despite having qualified officers and expertise.

Director of Soil & Water Conservation, L. Chubaonen, highlighted that the CCC was conceptualized as a centralized digital hub to strengthen data-driven decision-making, real-time monitoring, and effective implementation of the Soil Health and Fertility programme. The Centre aims to improve coordination between district offices, laboratories, and the Directorate, provide advisories to farmers, integrate field-level activities such as soil health card generation and fertilizer recommendations, and facilitate data collection, analysis, and visualization using ICT and GIS platforms.

The Centre is equipped with a dedicated server system for centralized data management, GIS software for spatial mapping, video conferencing facilities, and workstations with Wi-Fi connectivity for data analysis, report generation, and monitoring field-level progress under RKVY and other schemes. With its operationalization, the Department aims to enhance efficiency, transparency, and accountability in programme implementation, while establishing a state-wide digital soil health repository for evidence-based agricultural planning.

The Advisor also virtually inaugurated Bio Fertilizer Production Units at Rotomi and Seyochung.
