Kohima, Feb 26: The Nagaland Legislative Assembly will begin its budget session on March 2, which will be conducted in two phases, officials said Wednesday.
The first phase will run until March 12 across five sittings, starting with the Governor’s address. It will include questions on public matters, debates on the Motion of Thanks, presentation of annual reports, committee reports, and the introduction of government and private Bills. The schedule for the second phase, when Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio will present the 2026-27 state budget, will be announced at the end of the first phase.
The second phase will focus on Comptroller and Auditor General (C&AG) reports, trends in receipts and expenditure, supplementary demands for 2025-26 grants, and other key legislative business.
Lawmakers are also expected to discuss the recently signed tripartite Frontier Nagaland Territory Authority (FNTA) agreement between the Centre, state, and Eastern Nagaland People’s Organisation (ENPO), along with proposals to lift the Nagaland Liquor Total Prohibition Act, 1989, in Kohima and Dimapur. This will be the first assembly session after the merger of the Nationalist Democratic Progressive Party (NDPP) and Naga People’s Front (NPF).
