The Lotha Hoho has called on the Nagaland state government to take urgent and concrete steps to address the increasing incidents of human-elephant conflict. The appeal follows a recent elephant attack that led to the death of a 72-year-old farmer in New Riphyim Village under Wokha district.
In an official statement, the Hoho stressed the immediate need for deploying rapid response teams and establishing early warning systems in high-risk areas. It also underscored the importance of adopting sustainable, community-based measures to reduce such conflicts in the long term.
Additionally, the Hoho urged the government to provide ex-gratia compensation to the bereaved family and extend long-term support to families impacted by wildlife-related incidents.
