Nagaland Lok Sabha Member S. Supongmeren Jamir on Wednesday expressed serious concern in the Lok Sabha over the prolonged neglect of the North Eastern region in infrastructure and governance.

In a written submission, Jamir pointed to a wide gap between the Centre’s “Act East Policy” and the actual conditions on the ground. He highlighted poor road, rail, and air connectivity, along with inadequate healthcare, education, and digital access—especially in rural and remote areas.

Jamir further noted that operational difficulties are faced even by defence and paramilitary forces due to poor infrastructure. He criticised the Centre’s inaction on the long-pending Naga peace accords and opposed the continued enforcement of the Armed Forces (Special Powers) Act (AFSPA) in the region.

Urging a shift from rhetoric to result-oriented governance, the MP called for region-specific and decentralized planning to ensure inclusive development in the Northeast.
