Nagaland: NSDMA Issues Alert For Heavy Rainfall And Thunderstorms Until June 5

Kohima, May 30: The Nagaland State Disaster Management Authority (NSDMA), Home Department, has issued a weather advisory forecasting heavy to extremely heavy rainfall across the state until June 5, 2025. The alert includes warnings of isolated thunderstorms, lightning, and strong winds likely to affect most districts.

On May 29, light to moderate rainfall was reported in many parts, with heavy to very heavy showers recorded in Kohima, Kiphire, Tuensang, Phek, and Mon. Wind speeds are expected to reach 40-50 kmph, gusting up to 60 kmph in several areas.

From May 29 to May 31, all districts are likely to experience widespread heavy rainfall. Exceptionally heavy rain is expected over Kohima, Phek, and Tseminyu districts between June 2 and June 5, while other districts may face extremely heavy rain from June 1 onwards.

The NSDMA has cautioned residents about the risks of lightning, strong winds, and the possibility of waterlogging and flash floods, particularly in the lowland and foothill regions such as Dimapur, Nuiland, Chumoukedima, Bhandari, Baghty, Tizit, and Tuli.

Authorities have urged the public to take necessary precautions and avoid risky areas. District Disaster Management Authorities and all relevant departments have been advised to remain on high alert to protect lives and property during this period.

In case of emergencies, residents are advised to contact the State Emergency Operation Centre (SEOC) at the toll-free number 1070.
