Dimapur, Mar 20: Nagaland Police on Thursday issued an advisory urging citizens travelling to Assam to exercise caution due to the enforcement of the Model Code of Conduct (MCC) for the upcoming assembly elections.

The advisory noted increased surveillance by election authorities and law enforcement at inter-state borders and key locations to ensure free and fair polls. Police said several travellers had previously faced delays and complications due to routine checks.

Key precautions listed in the advisory include:

Avoid carrying excess cash without valid documentation.

Ensure proper documentation for valuables such as gold or silver.

Refrain from transporting political materials like pamphlets or posters without authorization.

Cooperate with vehicle inspections and keep valid identification ready.

Do not carry unlicensed arms or ammunition.

The 512-km Nagaland-Assam border stretches across seven districts. Assam’s 126-seat assembly elections are scheduled for April 9, with results to be declared on May 4.
