The Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB), Guwahati Zonal Unit, has busted an international drug trafficking network operating across Myanmar, Manipur and Assam, intercepting a major heroin consignment following a targeted intelligence-based operation.

According to the NCB, officers had been tracking the illicit shipment as it moved through forest routes in Manipur before being transported by small motorboats along the Barak River to bypass security checks. On Tuesday, an NCB team intercepted one such motorboat near Silchar and apprehended two individuals on board.

A thorough search revealed more than six kilograms of high-grade heroin concealed inside 530 soap cases, cleverly hidden beneath layers of bamboo. The seized drugs carry an estimated value of ₹12.5 crore in the illegal market.

The operation was carried out jointly with the CRPF and with crucial assistance from the Silchar Police, the agency said in its statement.
