The National Cooperative Development Corporation (NCDC) Regional Awards for Cooperative Excellence and Merit–2025 for Primary Cooperative Societies, including Farmers’ Producer Organisations (FPOs) of Manipur, were distributed today at the Institute of Cooperative Management (ICM) Conference Hall, Lamphelpat, Imphal.
The award distribution ceremony, comprising cash awards and certificates, was organised by the NCDC Regional Office, Guwahati, under the aegis of the Ministry of Cooperation, Government of India.
The awards recognised the outstanding performance and contributions of primary cooperative societies and FPOs in strengthening the cooperative movement and promoting sustainable economic development in Manipur.
Registrar of Cooperative Societies, Manipur, W. Ibohal Singh; Director, ICM Imphal, Dr. Khundrakpam Ramanando; Governing Council Member of Tribhuvan Sahkari University (TSU), Jeena Potshangbam; and District Cooperative Officer, Imphal West, Kh. Tarun Kumar, attended the function as presidium members.
Speaking on the occasion, W. Ibohal Singh highlighted the role and performance of cooperative societies in sustaining livelihoods and urged the youth of the state to actively participate in various cooperative sectors. He expressed concern over the low level of participation in some sectors, noting that several award categories had to be left vacant due to non-fulfilment of eligibility criteria and non-submission of applications. He appealed to stakeholders to enhance awareness and utilisation of available awards and incentives.
The Registrar congratulated the award-winning societies and encouraged others to improve their engagement and performance. He also cautioned that the department would adopt a stricter approach against non-performing cooperative societies, warning that continued non-performance could lead to discontinuation of their status.
After rigorous scrutiny based on prescribed eligibility criteria, awards were conferred under five categories. In the Primary Credit Cooperative Societies (PACS) category, Heikrujam and Kangmong GP Level MPCS Ltd. (Imphal West) received the Excellence award, while Thongju Part-II GPLMPCS Ltd. (Imphal East) won the Merit award. In the fishery and beekeeping sector, Wangoo Laipham Awang Leikai Fish Farming Cooperative Society Ltd.
