Agartala, July 31, 2025: The National Commission for Women (NCW) has taken suo motu cognizance of the alleged gang-rape of a 17-year-old girl in Tuikarma, Khowai District, Tripura, on the night of July 28. Expressing deep anguish, the NCW has directed the Tripura Director General of Police (DGP) to ensure a fair and time-bound investigation, demanding a detailed Action Taken Report (ATR) along with the FIR copy within three days.
In a statement posted on X, NCW Chairperson Vijaya Rahatkar condemned the incident, urging authorities to book the accused under the relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023, and ensure their immediate arrest. The commission also emphasized providing the victim with comprehensive support, including medical and psychological assistance.
Tripura Police have arrested one suspect, Antar Miah, who is currently in judicial custody. A manhunt is underway to apprehend the second accused, Hiran Miah, who remains at large. The NCW’s directive underscores the urgency of delivering justice in this grave matter.
