Gangtok, Jun 3: Two V-5 helicopters landed at Pakyong Greenfield Airport on Tuesday to deploy National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) teams to North Sikkim, where relief efforts are underway following a natural disaster.

The first sortie carried 23 NDRF personnel equipped with satellite phones, emergency tools, and essential supplies. The team departed from Pakyong towards Chaten to support ongoing rescue and relief activities in the region.

The deployment is intended to enhance on-ground operations in the remote and affected areas, where access has been severely restricted due to recent disruptions. The NDRF teams will assist in evacuation, rescue operations, and setting up temporary communication channels for affected communities.

Authorities have also directed officials to identify alternative foot-access routes and evaluate the feasibility of helipad operations, depending on weather conditions. Relief efforts continue to focus on reaching isolated villages and ensuring timely delivery of aid.
