Agartala, June 16, 2025: The North Eastern Council (NEC) has approved a financial outlay of ₹14.22 crore for a wide-ranging set of development projects in Tripura aimed at strengthening rural infrastructure, enhancing agricultural productivity, improving education, and promoting cultural preservation.
According to an official statement from the ICA department, the sanctioned funds will be used to implement schemes that seek to bolster service delivery, modernize rural amenities and support primary sectors such as agriculture, animal husbandry and fisheries.
Among the key initiatives, the NEC has allocated ₹2 crore for setting up six Integrated Seed Processing Plants across Tripura to help farmers access better-quality seeds. An additional ₹3 crore will be invested in developing modern infrastructure at two agricultural markets. In the livestock sector, ₹10.71 lakh has been earmarked for establishing pig breeding farms in Hawai Bari under Teliamura Subdivision of Khowai district and in Jalepha of South Tripura district. Furthermore, ₹1.51 crore has been sanctioned for developing brooder houses and poultry hatcheries.
To enhance public service delivery, ₹1.10 crore has been approved for a project in Ganganagar RD Block of Dhalai district, while ₹1.54 crore will support a similar initiative in Raishyabari RD Block. In a step toward water conservation and resource management, ₹1 crore has been allotted for the excavation and renovation of ponds and minor water bodies.
For improving post-harvest handling, the NEC has sanctioned ₹80 lakh for constructing an Integrated Pack House in Dhalai district, aimed at strengthening packaging and marketing of farm produce.
In the education sector, ₹30 lakh has been approved for constructing a new building at Vivekananda Tripureswari Vidya Mandir. The council will also fund various capacity-building and cultural initiatives, including workshops on Geographical Indication (GI) products, an international chemistry conference, a winter school on health economics, and the installation of solar-powered irrigation systems in government-run orchid gardens.
Officials noted that these initiatives are part of a broader strategy to uplift semi-urban and rural populations by aligning development with the region’s unique socio-economic and cultural landscape.
“The NEC remains committed to the comprehensive development of Tripura and the entire Northeast, focusing not only on economic advancement but also on the conservation of cultural heritage and indigenous knowledge systems,” the statement added.
