A new species of cave-dwelling loach, Schistura densiclava, has been discovered in Meghalaya by researchers from Gauhati University and Lady Keane College, marking the sixth such discovery from the state known for its rich subterranean biodiversity.
The discovery was led by Dr Kangkan Sarma and his team from Gauhati University. Announcing the find on X, the university noted that this is the ninth new fish species identified by the team.
Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad Sangma commended the researchers and said the discovery highlights the state’s unique and diverse ecosystem.

We have only that kind of fish in my village Rengpang, Manipur. its not new
Since my childhood we used to catched and fry it and eat. My favourite during my childhood.
It is also found in my village stream n river, Manipur. This is nothing new.
It’s not a rare species.
It can also be found in Manipur, Assam, Nagaland , tripura etc LLP
