Agartala, January 13, 2026: The newly introduced VB-G RAM G Act is not merely an administrative reform but a transformative step towards rural welfare and prosperity, Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare Minister Ratan Lal Nath said at a key discussion meeting held in Mohanpur Block on Tuesday.
The meeting brought together elected representatives from all panchayats, former MGNREGA workers, officials from various line departments, and the Block Development Officer (BDO), who engaged in detailed deliberations on the new law.
Minister Nath emphasized that the primary objective of the VB-G RAM G Act is to secure public trust and participation through proper awareness and dissemination. “This law has been framed for the welfare of the people, and its success depends on active involvement from the community,” he said.
Highlighting the government’s commitment to rural development, Nath pointed out that under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership since 2014, the budget allocation for MGNREGA has seen a dramatic rise.
Between 2004 and 2014, the total budget stood at ₹2.13 lakh crore. From 2015 to 2025, the allocation increased to ₹7.80 lakh crore. The highest annual budget before 2014 was ₹33,000 crore, compared to ₹86,000 crore during Modi’s tenure.
“This reflects the Prime Minister’s consistent focus on villages, farmers, and poverty alleviation,” Nath remarked.
The minister noted that the core purpose of MGNREGA has always been asset creation.
In the past seven years, Tripura has created 8.10 lakh assets, compared to 6.67 lakh in the seven years before 2018. Wage payments have also grown, with ₹5,332 crore disbursed in the last seven years, up from ₹4,240 crore earlier. The state currently has 6.56 lakh job cards covering 10.20 lakh workers, with the number of workdays increased from 100 to 125.
The VB-G RAM G Act, Nath explained, places strong emphasis on water conservation, water security, livelihood enhancement, rural infrastructure, and climate resilience.
Nath alleged that widespread corruption plagued MGNREGA during the Left Front government. “Through the VB-G RAM G Act, complete transparency will be ensured,” he said. Unlike earlier delays in wage distribution, the new system will transfer payments directly to workers’ bank accounts, guaranteeing both timeliness and accountability.
