Manipur Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand on Thursday informed the Manipur Legislative Assembly that the killing of two persons in Kamjong district will be handed over to the National Investigation Agency (NIA) for investigation.

Replying to a Calling Attention Motion raised by Congress leader Keisham Meghachandra in the Assembly, the Chief Minister said the state government will also provide ex-gratia assistance to the families of the deceased as per government rules.

Meanwhile, Manipur Home Minister Govindas Konthoujam described the incident as unfortunate, noting that the abduction of civilians occurred despite strong security arrangements in the area.

He also informed the Assembly that 20 Naga civilians who were allegedly abducted by Kuki militants were released safely early Thursday morning.

According to officials, the civilians were taken hostage by an armed group at Shangkai village in Ukhrul district. They were later freed and handed over to Tangkhul civil society organisations at Litan Police Station around 4 a.m.
