Agartala, February 05, 2026: Renowned Bangladeshi physician Dr. Pran Gopal Dutta has been formally authorized to provide voluntary medical services in Tripura, with officials confirming that his practice at Tripura Santiniketan Medical College & Hospital is fully lawful and free of complications.

Amid public speculation over whether a foreign national could legally serve patients in India, the institution clarified that Dr. Dutta has been granted temporary permission by the National Medical Commission (NMC) under Section 34 of the NMC Act, 2019. The authorization, valid until October 12, 2026, allows him to render charitable medical care. The Tripura State Medical Council has also issued him a temporary registration (No. 004101), enabling him to practice within the state.

Senior officials emphasized that both the NMC and the state medical council have extended full support to Dr. Dutta’s humanitarian initiative. “There is absolutely no legal complication,” one official stated, underscoring the legitimacy of his services.

Dr. Dutta, a distinguished figure in the medical fraternity, brings decades of international expertise. He completed his MBBS from Chittagong University in 1976, earned a PhD from the Kiev Institute in 1983, and holds the FRCS degree from the United Kingdom. His voluntary service, hospital authorities confirmed, is entirely philanthropic, aimed at supporting economically disadvantaged and marginalized patients.

Colleagues in Tripura noted that his presence has already benefited patients who otherwise struggle to access advanced medical care outside the state. His skill in diagnosing complex conditions and offering clinical guidance has drawn widespread appreciation.

Malay Pit, President of Tripura Santiniketan Medical College & Hospital, welcomed the government’s decision, calling it a humanitarian step. “In the larger public interest, special powers were exercised to grant this permission. Dr. Dutta’s charitable medical services are legally sanctioned, properly documented, and represent a significant humanitarian initiative,” he said.
