Aizawl, Jan 21: Mizoram Health Minister Lalrinpuii today suggested rebranding India’s Northeast from “landlocked” to “land-linked,” citing significant improvements in regional connectivity.
Speaking at an international conference on the Northeast at Christ University in Bengaluru, Lalrinpuii highlighted infrastructure projects such as the Agartala-Akhaura railway line, the Kaladan Multi-Modal Transit Transport project, and the Asian Highway as examples of enhanced links with the rest of the country and neighboring regions.
“The Northeast has now been well connected,” she said, urging youth to adopt the new terminology.
Lalrinpuii also noted how digital tools, including 4G and 5G networks, have enabled students in remote parts of Mizoram to access education and skills on par with urban centers like Bengaluru.
The minister emphasized the economic potential of the region’s rich traditions and culture, including handloom, handicrafts, and medicinal herbs, stating that these should no longer be preserved only in museums, but recognized as valuable intellectual properties in the global market.
She further advocated for promoting eco-tourism, carbon credits, and clean energy as key drivers for the Northeast’s sustainable development.
