Inspector Adaso Kapesa of Kaibi village in Senapati district, Manipur, has made history as the first woman from her state and the first ever to be inducted into the Special Protection Group, India’s elite force responsible for the Prime Minister’s security during high-stakes assignments.

Kapesa began her policing career with the Sashastra Seema Bal, serving in the 55th Battalion stationed at Pithoragarh, Uttarakhand. Her exemplary service record and rigorous training earned her a deputation to the SPG, breaking one of the last gender barriers in India’s top-tier security forces.

Her debut in SPG uniform occurred during Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s recent visit to the United Kingdom, where images of her poised alongside the PM went viral. Netizens hailed her presence as a powerful symbol of resilience and progress for women in defence and law enforcement roles.
