Kohima, July 31: The Naga People’s Front (NPF) has expressed grave concern over the growing presence of illegal immigrants in Nagaland, calling it an “insidious threat” to the state’s demographic balance and indigenous identity.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, the party highlighted that districts such as Peren, Dimapur, Niuland, Wokha, Mokokchung, Longleng, and Mon — all bordering Assam — have been particularly affected by the rising influx, especially of immigrants from Bangladesh. The NPF stated that the situation has reached an alarming level, posing a challenge to the rights and identity of the indigenous Naga people.
The party has demanded strict implementation of the Inner Line Permit (ILP) system and the strengthening of border control measures to check further illegal entry. It emphasized that the issue should not be viewed through communal or religious lenses but as a matter of safeguarding the land, culture, and future of Nagaland.
The NPF also urged civil society, political representatives, and the public to unite and take immediate steps to address the issue of illegal immigration in the state.
