Agartala, May 12, 2025: Claiming nurses are the backbone of the healthcare system, Tripura Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha inaugurated the state-level International Nurses Day programme at Rabindra Shatabarshiki Bhavan here in Agartala city on Monday. The Tripura Nursing Council and the Health and Family Welfare Department jointly organized the event.

Marking the birth anniversary of Florence Nightingale, International Nurses Day is celebrated annually on May 12 to honour the contribution of nursing professionals. Dr. Saha paid tribute to the selfless service and compassion of nurses, emphasizing their critical role in healthcare delivery.

“We are committed to improving the quality of life for our nursing staff by ensuring safety, providing modern training, regular recruitment, better infrastructure, and restoring the dignity of their profession,” the Chief Minister said. He underlined the importance of polite behaviour and empathetic patient care, which, he noted, builds trust and strengthens the patient-caregiver relationship.

Highlighting the state’s healthcare reforms, Dr. Saha said the government had already secured financial sanction for the contractual recruitment of 100 nurses, with the process set to commence shortly. Additionally, efforts are underway to appoint 332 more Nursing Officers.

Acknowledging the efforts of all medical personnel, he remarked, “Doctors, nurses, and healthcare staff work with dedication. However, any reported negligence is addressed promptly with proper inquiry.”

The event also witnessed the presence of Social Welfare and Social Education Minister Tinku Roy, Health Secretary Kiran Gitte, and Director of Health Services Dr. Tapan Majumder, among others.

The Chief Minister further reiterated the state government’s aim to enhance the efficacy and quality of nursing services for building a stronger healthcare system and, ultimately, a more robust economy.
