Shillong, Oct 25: Oil India Ltd (OIL) will fund the construction of 47 toilet facilities for girl students across schools in Meghalaya’s Ri Bhoi district under its corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiative. An MoU was signed on Friday between OIL representatives and Ri Bhoi Deputy Commissioner Abhilash Baranwal to formalize the project, officials said on Saturday.
As part of the agreement, OIL will extend financial assistance of about Rs 72 lakh to schools lacking adequate sanitation facilities for girls.
Baranwal stated that the initiative stemmed from the visit of Union Petroleum and Natural Gas Minister Hardeep Singh Puri to Ri Bhoi earlier this year, during which the issue of “inadequate toilet infrastructure in schools” was raised.
He added that the project will be jointly monitored by OIL and the district administration to ensure quality standards, sustainability, and timely completion by December.
