Agartala, October 18, 2025: In a scathing indictment of the Tripura government, Leader of the Opposition and CPIM Politburo member Jitendra Chaudhury on Saturday condemned the rape and murder of a 14-month-old girl in Panisagar, calling it a “shameful reflection of societal degradation.”
Chaudhury made the remarks after visiting the victim’s family, expressing deep anguish over the crime. “Even an innocent child is not spared. This incident is a brutal reminder of how far our society has fallen,” he told reporters.
Highlighting a disturbing pattern of violence, Chaudhury said such heinous acts are becoming alarmingly frequent across the state. “Just yesterday, a 72-year-old woman was raped. These are not isolated incidents—they reflect a systemic failure,” he said.
He criticized the BJP-led state government for what he described as hollow slogans like ‘Save the Daughter’ and ‘Empower Women,’ arguing that these campaigns lack meaningful action. “The government is busy with optics while women and children continue to suffer,” he added.
Chaudhury also questioned the state’s law and order machinery, stating that the Panisagar case exemplifies the collapse of governance. “When children are murdered and women assaulted with impunity, it’s clear that good governance is a myth,” he said.
Demanding swift justice, the opposition leader urged the administration to arrest the accused without delay and ensure exemplary punishment. “Only decisive action can restore public faith and deter future crimes,” he asserted.
