Agartala, May 29, 2025: Life across Tripura has been thrown off balance as incessant rains continue to lash several parts of the state since last night. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an orange alert for all districts of Tripura, forecasting heavy to very heavy rainfall within the next 24 hours.
Speaking on the developing weather system, a senior IMD official stated, “A low-pressure area has formed in the northwest Bay of Bengal, off the Odisha coast, under the influence of cyclonic circulation. This system is gradually intensifying and moving northward.”
The cyclonic circulation is currently active up to 7.6 kilometers above sea level, affecting the northwest and adjoining west-central Bay of Bengal. Meteorologists say that this disturbance is expected to bring more widespread rainfall across the region.
The IMD also reported that the maximum temperature recorded today in Tripura was 24 degrees Celsius, significantly lower than usual due to overcast conditions and rain. “We expect the temperature to rise slightly tomorrow, with the maximum likely to touch 34 degrees Celsius and the minimum around 26 degrees,” the official added.
As rains continue to pour, normal life has been disrupted in several urban and rural areas, with traffic affected and waterlogging reported in low-lying regions. Authorities have urged residents to remain alert and take necessary precautions during the ongoing weather emergency.
