Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma on Thursday led a tree plantation drive along Ummir Road in New Shillong Township by planting a Cherry Blossom tree to commemorate World Environment Day 2025.
Joined by enthusiastic students and community leaders, the initiative aimed to promote environmental responsibility and raise awareness about sustainable living. The Chief Minister announced that over 10,000 trees will be planted across the New Shillong area as part of a large-scale effort to enhance the region’s green cover.
Speaking at the event, the Chief Minister emphasized that World Environment Day should not be limited to a single day of awareness, but should inspire continuous efforts. “I urged everyone gathered to adopt small, consistent changes in their everyday lives. When combined, our individual efforts can create a powerful and lasting impact on the environment,” he said.
