Agartala, September 24, 2025: Tripura’s Fisheries Minister Sudhangshu Das informed the Assembly on Tuesday that the state government has been taking several initiatives to boost fish production and make Tripura self-reliant in aquaculture.
Replying to a Calling Attention Notice raised by MLA Ranjit Das, the Minister said that multiple schemes are being implemented across the state, including infrastructure development, training, and awareness programs.
“Our government has taken up various projects to support fish farmers at the subdivision and block levels. Under the Awareness-cum-Demonstration for Development of Aquaculture (ADDA) programme, more than 18,000 farmers have already been trained in modern fish farming techniques,” said Sudhangshu Das.
He added that financial assistance and inputs such as fish seeds, feed, and nets are being provided to beneficiaries under different schemes. “Tripura has been receiving support from the National Fisheries Development Board (NFDB) as well as other agencies. With this, we are gradually moving towards bridging the gap between demand and supply of fish in the state,” the Minister stated.
Das further highlighted the role of Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC) areas, where special focus is being given to improve livelihoods through aquaculture. “Fish farming is not just about food supply, it is also a source of income and employment for thousands of families. That is why the state is prioritising the sector,” he remarked.
The Fisheries Minister assured the House that the government would continue to strengthen infrastructure, provide training, and encourage scientific fish farming practices so that Tripura becomes self-sufficient in fish production in the coming years.
