Agartala, December 19, 2025:
Tripura has emerged as an active contributor to the country’s legal aid outreach, with 25,523 beneficiaries receiving assistance under the Legal Services Authorities framework during the period 2023-24 to 2025-26 (up to October 2025). Official data show that 9,964 persons benefited in 2023-24, followed by 10,303 in 2024-25, while 5,529 people have already been covered in 2025-26 (up to October).
Across India, a total of 43,52,888 persons were benefited during the same period among 36 states and Union Territories, underscoring the expanding reach of free legal services nationwide.
To ensure effective delivery, the National Legal Services Authority (NALSA) closely monitors the functioning of State Legal Services Authorities (SLSAs), including Tripura, through monthly activity reports, annual reports, and periodic reviews. These reports are compiled and reviewed by the Government and are also placed before both Houses of Parliament.
Further oversight is provided by the Department-Related Parliamentary Standing Committee on Personnel, Public Grievances, Law and Justice, while All India and Regional Meets are regularly organized to assess performance.
Legal awareness programmes focusing on children, labourers, disaster victims, SC/ST communities, and persons with disabilities are conducted across Tripura. Booklets and pamphlets in simple language are also distributed. In addition, the launch of NALSA’s ‘JAGRITI’ Scheme, 2025 aims to strengthen grassroots legal awareness through local self-government institutions, further enhancing access to justice in rural areas.
This information was given by the Minister of State (Independent Charge) of the Ministry of Law and Justice; and Minister of State in the Ministry of Parliamentary Affairs Arjun Ram Meghwal in Rajya Sabha today.
