Aizawl, Aug 27: Mizoram is currently sheltering more than 29,000 people from Myanmar who fled their country following the military coup, state Home Minister K. Sapdanga informed on Wednesday.
Responding in writing to a question from Zoram People’s Movement (ZPM) legislator V. L. Zaithanzama during the first day of the two-day monsoon session of the state assembly, Sapdanga said authorities are conducting biometric registration of the displaced people.
According to official records, as of August 11, a total of 29,046 Myanmar nationals are living across various districts of Mizoram under the care of the district administrations.
