A total of 3,332 Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan (SSA) schools in Meghalaya have formally requested the state education department to take over their management. The move comes after the schools submitted No Objection Certificates (NOCs) to the department, the Meghalaya SSA Schools Association (MSSASA) said.
According to MSSASA, 3,034 of these schools are community-managed, while 298 are run by religious groups or private organisations. MSSASA president Aristotle Rymbai, following a meeting with the commissioner and secretary of the education department, confirmed that institutions under private and religious management have also expressed willingness to shift to government control.
He added that the initiative highlights a collective effort by the schools to ensure stability and improved support under state management.
