Padma Shri Sanu Lama Accorded State Funeral In Gangtok, Sikkim CM Tamang Pays Tribute

Padma Shri awardee and renowned literary figure Gadul Singh Lama, popularly known as Sanu Lama, was laid to rest with full state honours in Gangtok on Friday. Sikkim Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang paid his final respects and expressed condolences to the bereaved family.

The funeral ceremony was attended by Cabinet Ministers, MLAs, senior government officials, dignitaries, and members of the local community who gathered to honour the life and legacy of the eminent writer.

Describing Lama as a “towering literary figure and revered son of Sikkim,” the Chief Minister said that his passing marks the loss of a celebrated thinker whose contributions to literature, culture, and public service have left a lasting impact on the state and beyond.

“His profound legacy will continue to inspire generations to come,” said Tamang in a message shared on his official social media page.

Sanu Lama was widely respected for his role in shaping Sikkim’s literary landscape and was honoured with the Padma Shri for his outstanding contributions to Nepali literature.
