In a tragic incident, the Assistant Leader of a Special Forces Unit – Lhagyal lost life owing to parachute malfunctioning during training exercise in Sikkim. The skilled jumper was a resident of Ravangla under Namchi district in the southern part of Sikkim.
He was practicing along the Indo-China border on Tuesday. The paratrooper’s body was later recovered by the army and was sent for autopsy. He has been working with Paratrooper 6 Vikas Regiment for the last eight years.
According to defence sources, Laghyal – as usual moved to the Indo-China border area for training on Tuesday. He was taken by a chopper to a height of 250 feet as part of regular practice session.
Although, the right clip of his parachute opened but the left one got stuck, which led to the unfortunate incident.
The army retrieved his body from the forest this afternoon. He was first taken to a local hospital in Sikkim where the doctor-on-duty declared him brought dead. Later his body was sent to North Bengal Medical College and Hospital for post-mortem.
