Parliamentary Committee Reviews Transport Infrastructure Projects In Sikkim

Gangtok, Jun 30: The Department-related Parliamentary Standing Committee on Transport, Tourism and Culture convened a review meeting with key transport infrastructure agencies in Gangtok on Monday. The meeting focused on assessing the progress of transport-related projects in Sikkim.

The session was chaired by Rajya Sabha MP and Committee Chairman Sanjay Kumar Jha, along with members of Parliament including M Mohamed Abdulla, Neeraj Dangi, Anil Firojiya, Tapir Gao, Vishweshwar Hegde Kageri, K E Prakash, Rajiv Pratap Rudy, Devesh Chandra Thakur, Amarsing Tisso, and Surendra Singh Nagar.

 

Representatives from the National Highways and Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited (NHIDCL), Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRT&H), Border Roads Organisation (BRO), and the Roads and Bridges Department of the Government of Sikkim participated in the discussions.

 

Pankaj Shah, IT Engineer, NHIDCL Regional Office, Gangtok, delivered a presentation outlining NHIDCL’s operational scope, national highway portfolio, and key infrastructure projects, both completed and ongoing.

Brigadier Manoj Gupta, Chief Engineer of Project Swastik, presented an overview of the BRO’s initiatives in Sikkim, including infrastructure development, disaster restoration efforts, and future targets.

The meeting also featured an extensive interactive session, allowing participants to share inputs and discuss challenges and solutions related to transport infrastructure.

Among the senior officials present were Dr Krishan Kumar, Managing Director, NHIDCL; Aditya Prakash, Chief Engineer, Zone-V, MoRT&H; A Susnbi, Superintending Engineer, MoRT&H Guwahati Regional Office; and officials from the Roads and Bridges Department, Government of Sikkim, including PCE-cum-Secretary K C Sharma, Chief Engineer Sukbir Subba, Superintending Engineer Kalka Rai, and Assistant Engineer Sanjok Sharma.
