Agartala, September 01, 2025: Tipra Motha Party (TMP) chief Pradyot Kishore Manikya Debbarma has accused authorities of forcing tribal families in North Tripura’s District Council areas to vacate their land to accommodate outsiders, terming the move a direct assault on indigenous rights.
In a video statement, Pradyot claimed to have received complaints from residents of Damcherra and Panisagar, alleging threats of eviction involving the district administration and Indian Gas Grid Limited (IGGL). “These families have lived here for generations but, lacking documents or pattas, they are being told to vacate. Why are tribals being displaced from District Council areas to benefit outsiders?” he questioned.
Citing a letter from the Ranglong Association in Panisagar, he alleged plans to set up a private township on government land, displacing local residents. He further accused the state of neglecting Sixth Schedule protections and allowing exploitation of natural resources without the consent of indigenous communities.
Pradyot urged TMP’s elected representatives to act decisively, warning that silence could pave the way for further evictions. “If it is happening in Panisagar today, it may happen in your village tomorrow,” he cautioned, adding that the role of MLAs and MDCs was not merely to hold office but to safeguard people’s rights.
