Agartala, June 16, 2025: In a major push to uplift the indigenous farming community of Tripura, royal scion and founder of the Tipra Motha Party (TMP) Pradyot Kishore Manikya Debbarma on Monday called upon all indigenous farmers of the state to unite under a single platform – the Tripura Indigenous Farmers’ Association.

Taking to his official Facebook handle, Pradyot shared a message, “I urge all indigenous farmers of Tripura to unite and form the Tripura Indigenous Farmers’ Association. Through this, we can brand, market, and sell our indigenous products like bamboo, oranges, arecanut, mangoes, and pineapple across India and the world.”

Highlighting the paradox faced by the farming community, he noted, “We have some of the best produce in the country, yet we are one of the most exploited farmers in the country.”

Tripura, with its rich agro-climatic diversity, produces high-quality horticultural and forest-based products, but farmers often face challenges related to poor infrastructure, lack of market access and middlemen exploitation.

Pradyot emphasized that mere political slogans are not enough to bring about real change in the lives of indigenous communities.

“I firmly believe that to rise as a community, we must empower our farmers economically by taking our produce from local to global,” he said.

He hinted that the proposed association would aim at creating a unified network for indigenous cultivators, facilitate direct market linkages, advocate for fair prices, and push for modern branding techniques to give Tripura’s native products national and international recognition.
