Shillong, Aug 4: A tragic accident claimed the lives of five people, including a pregnant woman and a child, after their vehicle plunged into a 70-foot-deep gorge near Rngain on the Shillong-Dawki road in East Khasi Hills district, police said on Monday.

The incident occurred around 7 pm on Sunday. The victims were travelling from Shillong to Langkyrdem when the driver reportedly lost control of the car, causing it to veer off the road and fall into the gorge. All five occupants died on the spot. Authorities have launched an investigation into the incident.
