Gangtok, Nov 13: Sikkim Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang launched the official banner for the Sikkim Fish Festival 2025 at his official residence at Mintokgang, Gangtok. The two-day festival, organised by the Fisheries Department, Government of Sikkim, will be held on November 21 and 22 at Vega Circle in Siliguri.

The ceremony was attended by Fisheries Minister Puran Kumar Gurung, Advisor A. M. Psd Sharma, Secretary Roshni Rai, Director K. K. Shrestha, and Joint Director Lobsang Tamang of the Fisheries Department.

The Sikkim Fish Festival 2025, themed “Discover the Himalayan Freshness – Experience Sikkim’s Fish,” aims to promote the Himalayan Rainbow Trout, locally farmed fish species, and a range of value-added fish products from the state. The event will provide a platform for fish farmers, entrepreneurs, and self-help groups from all four districts of Sikkim to showcase their products.

Exhibition-cum-sale stalls will feature fresh Rainbow Trout, smoked and dried fish, fish pickles, and other processed varieties unique to Sikkim. Live cooking counters offering trout-based delicacies will also be set up to introduce visitors to the taste and versatility of Sikkim’s trout.

According to the Fisheries Department, the festival will highlight Sikkim’s aquaculture potential, enhance consumer awareness about Himalayan fish, and strengthen trade links with neighbouring regions. The event is expected to draw visitors from Siliguri and adjoining areas of North Bengal.

The department expressed gratitude to the Chief Minister for his continued guidance and support towards the growth of Sikkim’s fisheries sector and for officially launching the promotional campaign for the festival.
