The stage is set for the grand opening of the 134th edition of the Durand Cup, 2025, scheduled to kick off on July 30 at the Khuman Lampak Main Stadium, Imphal. The prestigious football tournament, jointly organised by the Indian Army and the Department of Youth Affairs & Sports (YAS), Government of Manipur, will run till August 12.

Speaking to a media team, Dr. Mayengbam Veto Singh, Director of Youth Affairs & Sports, Government of Manipur, said this year’s tournament holds special significance as it marks the first major sporting event in the state following the COVID-19 lockdown and the ongoing unrest since May 2023. He emphasised that the event aims to revive the spirit of sportsmanship and bring a wave of positivity to the state.

A total of six matches will be played in Imphal on July 30, August 1, 4, 7, 10, with the final on August 12. Four teams will compete in the Imphal leg: Real Kashmir FC, Indian Navy Football Team, and local clubs NEROCA FC and TRAU FC. Tickets for the matches will be available at designated outlets and Army counters.

Dr. Veto Singh also highlighted that extensive preparations have been undertaken by the YAS Department, the Indian Army, and various government agencies to ensure the success of the event. A Steering Committee led by the Chief Secretary and an Organising Committee under the YAS Secretary have been formed, along with 17 sub-committees covering traffic, fire safety, medical response, and other logistical needs.

To address past issues of overcrowding, he assured that a colour-coded pass and seating system will be implemented for better crowd management. In collaboration with traffic and civil police, designated parking zones have also been arranged for the convenience of spectators.

The YAS Director appealed to the public for their full support and cooperation to ensure the smooth and successful conduct of the tournament.
