The Government of Sikkim has launched a women-centric public transport service titled “Pink City Runner – Aama Didi Bahini Bus Sewa,” aimed at providing safe and affordable travel options for women commuters.
The initiative was inaugurated by the President of India, Droupadi Murmu, in the presence of Om Prakash Mathur and Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang.
The service is exclusively reserved for women passengers and is operated entirely by female drivers and staff. It is designed to enhance safety, comfort, and accessibility in public transport for women across Sikkim.
Officials said the initiative aims to support women’s participation in education, employment, and social activities by improving reliable mobility options. The buses are equipped with modern facilities intended to ensure a more comfortable travel experience.
The government described the programme as part of its broader efforts to strengthen public transportation and promote women’s empowerment through targeted mobility initiatives.
