Agartala, March 13, 2026: The NDA alliance’s parliamentary party has proposed the name of senior leader Rampada Jamatia for the post of Speaker of the Tripura Legislative Assembly. The decision was taken during a meeting of the parliamentary party held on Thursday.
Chief Minister Prof Dr Manik Saha informed that the proposal to nominate Rampada Jamatia for the Speaker’s post was placed and discussed during the meeting. Expressing confidence in the veteran leader, the Chief Minister said his long political experience, dedication and leadership qualities would help strengthen and make the functioning of the Legislative Assembly more effective in the coming days.
“His experience and commitment to public service will contribute significantly to ensuring that the proceedings of the Assembly are conducted in a more disciplined, constructive and efficient manner,” the Chief Minister said. He also extended his heartfelt greetings to Rampad Jamatia and wished him success in his future responsibilities.
Meanwhile, Tripura Pradesh BJP President Rajib Bhattacharya also confirmed that the name of Rampad Jamatia was proposed in the NDA parliamentary party meeting led by the Bharatiya Janata Party.
On the occasion, Rajib Bhattacharya met Rampad Jamatia and exchanged greetings, conveying his best wishes for the successful discharge of his upcoming responsibilities. He expressed hope that Jamatia’s long-standing political experience would play an important role in making the activities of the Tripura Legislative Assembly more organized, dynamic and strong in the days ahead.
It may be mentioned that the post of Speaker of the Tripura Legislative Assembly fell vacant following the demise of former Speaker Biswabandhu Sen. Since then, Deputy Speaker Ramprasad Pal has been performing the duties as the acting Speaker.
