The Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS), Imphal, has issued a strong appeal to the public to stop dumping waste materials—including plastic bottles and bags—at the northern corner of the RIMS drain, near the Lamphel Traffic Island and opposite the Officers’ Club in Lamphel.

In a public notice, RIMS expressed concern over the continued misuse of the area as an informal dumping site despite multiple clean-up drives, the most recent being carried out by RIMS staff. The institute warned that with the onset of the monsoon season, plastic waste is increasingly being washed into the drainage system, causing serious blockages due to non-biodegradable waste accumulation.

Authorities cautioned that the clogged drains pose risks of waterlogging, environmental pollution, and the spread of vector-borne diseases—endangering both the hospital campus and the surrounding community.

Highlighting its commitment to environmental sustainability, RIMS reiterated that it has already enforced a ban on plastic bottles within its campus for over a year to promote a healthier and plastic-free environment.

The institute has urged all citizens and commuters to cooperate by disposing of waste responsibly and supporting civic hygiene efforts. RIMS further warned that strict monitoring and necessary action will be taken to prevent further dumping and ensure the area remains clean and safe.
