RIMS Imphal Holds Orientation Programme On Ethical Research Practices

The Research Ethics Board of Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS), Imphal, organised an Orientation and Sensitization Programme on Ethical Research Practices at Sushruta Hall, RIMS.

The programme was graced by Prof. S. Jibonkumar Singh, Dean, School of Human & Environmental Sciences, Manipur University, as the Chief Guest. Prof. N. Sanjib Singh, Medical Superintendent of RIMS Hospital, presided over the function. Prof. A.K. Joy Singh, Dean, School of Medical Sciences, Manipur University; Dr. Shantibala Konjengbam, Professor and Head, Department of Community Medicine, RIMS; and Prof. L. Rajesh Singh, Dean (Academics), attended as Guests of Honour.

During the programme, resource persons delivered lectures on key aspects of ethical research. Sessions included “Checklist for Ethical Review of Research Involving Human Participation,” which focused on participant safety, scientific validity, and regulatory compliance; “Bio-Cultural Competence and Ethical Conduct,” highlighting the importance of respecting socio-cultural contexts in research and healthcare; and “Foundational Ethical Frameworks: Cardinal Principles,” underscoring autonomy, beneficence, non-maleficence, and justice as the cornerstones of ethical research practice.

A key highlight of the programme was the conduct of mock ethical review sessions, providing participants with hands-on exposure to the review process and documentation requirements.

The initiative reaffirmed RIMS Imphal’s commitment to upholding ethical integrity and academic excellence, with participants expressing confidence in strengthening research standards within the institution.
