The Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS), Imphal, observed World Breastfeeding Week 2025 today at the General OPD Complex of RIMS Hospital, in collaboration with the Departments of Obstetrics & Gynaecology, Paediatrics, College of Nursing, and the Breastfeeding Promotion Alliance of Manipur (BPAM).

This year’s global theme, “Prioritize Breastfeeding: Create Sustainable Support Systems,” highlighted the importance of ongoing support for breastfeeding mothers in both healthcare and community settings.

The event was inaugurated by Prof. G. Sunil Kumar Sharma, Director of RIMS, who also opened a series of exhibition stalls designed to raise public awareness on breastfeeding practices. The event was attended by Prof. N. Sanjib Singh, Medical Superintendent, RIMS; Ng. Uttam Singh, MCS, Director, DIPR, Government of Manipur; and Dr. James Elangbam, Secretary, BPAM, serving as President and Guest of Honour, respectively.

As part of the observance, an awareness session was held, featuring the distribution of IEC (Information, Education & Communication) materials and live demonstrations of breastfeeding-related models at the OPD stalls.

The program saw active participation from RIMS officials including the Deputy Director (Admn), Dean (Academics), Heads of Departments, Principals of Dental and Nursing Colleges, faculty, nursing staff, and students—signifying a strong institutional commitment to advancing maternal and child health through early initiation and exclusive breastfeeding.

RIMS reiterated its pledge to promote breastfeeding as a critical public health intervention for a healthier future generation.
