Agartala, December 22, 2025: Tripura Transport Minister Sushanta Chowdhury has described road accidents as a grave national concern, stating they are no longer limited to personal tragedies but have become a significant cause of national loss.

Speaking at a special felicitation ceremony held at the state secretariat in Agartala city on Monday, the minister highlighted the irreversible loss of human resources and the devastating impact on families who are often left destitute in the aftermath of such incidents.

The event was organised under the Transport Department’s flagship initiative “Rah-Beer (Good Citizen Project),” which aims to promote road safety and honour civilians who demonstrate exceptional courage and compassion by assisting accident victims and ensuring their swift transportation to hospitals.

During the ceremony, Minister Chowdhury presented cash awards of ₹25,000 and certificates of appreciation to several such “good citizens” who played a pivotal role in saving lives. He expressed heartfelt gratitude for their selfless actions, calling them “inspirational and noble.”

“Timely assistance during accidents can save countless lives,” the minister stated. “The Rah-Beer initiative encourages ordinary citizens to stand by accident victims, thereby strengthening the values of humanity and civic responsibility in our society.”

Senior officials from the Transport Department and other dignitaries were also present at the event, underscoring the government’s commitment to fostering a culture of road safety and community support.
