Republican Party of India (RPI) leader Maheshwar Thounaojam has urged Manipur’s three Members of Parliament to jointly raise a strong and time-bound demand for the return of Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) to their original homes during the upcoming Monsoon Session of Parliament, which begins on July 21.
Addressing a press conference at the RPI Manipur office in Keishampat on Thursday, Thounaojam — who serves as both the State President and the National General Secretary of the party — stressed the need for concrete action from the MPs to resolve the prolonged displacement of thousands of people still residing in relief camps across the state.
He also called for a resolution to be tabled in Parliament to guarantee the free movement of all citizens within Manipur, including the restoration of unhindered travel along National Highways 2 and 37, which have been affected by ongoing unrest.
Thounaojam added that the Monsoon Session must serve as a critical platform for serious deliberation and decisive steps to alleviate the suffering of displaced communities and address the broader insecurity affecting the state.
