Sachin Deb Burman Will Remain Immortal as Long as Music Exists: Tripura Minister Sushanta Chowdhury

Agartala, November 01, 2025: The state paid a soulful tribute to the legendary composer and singer Sachin Deb Burman on his death anniversary through a cultural evening organized by the Department of Information and Cultural Affairs (ICA) at Muktadhara Auditorium here on Friday.

Tourism Minister Sushanta Chowdhury, attending the event as chief guest, described the maestro as an immortal figure in the world of music. “As long as we exist, as long as the music world exists, the king of music Sachin Deb Burman will remain immortal,” Chowdhury said, recalling the composer’s enduring contribution to Indian music.

Highlighting Deb Burman’s remarkable journey from the 1950s to the 1970s, the Minister said his work enriched Indian music through folk, modern, and classical compositions that continue to inspire generations. He also underlined the state government’s efforts to nurture young creative talents, including collaborations with the Satyajit Ray Film and Television Institute for training in filmmaking.

ICA Secretary Dr. Pradeep Kumar Chakraborty lauded Deb Burman’s legacy, noting that he recorded nearly 200 songs in Bengali and Hindi and earned several prestigious recognitions, including the Padma Shri. He also spoke about the department’s initiatives to promote drama, Jatrapala, folk, and rural art forms.

A highlight of the evening was the posthumous presentation of the Sachin Deb Burman Memorial Award to the late Barin Deb Burman for his contribution to classical music. His wife, Pratima Deb Burman, received the award comprising a certificate, memento, shawl, and a cheque of ₹21,000.

The event featured performances by artists from the Vedic cultural branch and various tribal and community groups. Floral tributes were offered before the program, which was also attended by Cultural Advisory Committee Vice Chairman Subrata Chakraborty and ICA Director Bimbisar Bhattacharya.
