Agartala, February 10, 2026: A new initiative titled “Santiniketan Go-Mata Seva Kendra” is set to take shape near Agartala under the management of Swadhin Trust, with support from Tripura Santiniketan Medical College & Hospital. The foundation stone for the project was laid on January 23 this year, marking the beginning of a visionary programme aimed at animal welfare, sustainable agriculture and livelihood generation.
The core objective of the Go-Mata Seva Kendra is to provide shelter, regular nurturing, advanced medical treatment and long-term rehabilitation for neglected, ailing and abandoned cows. The initiative seeks to ensure that these gentle and often-forgotten animals receive compassionate care and protection in a safe and humane environment.
Once the necessary government approvals are obtained, work on the project will commence swiftly. The proposed plan includes cultivation of green fodder, silage preparation, organic manure production, and promotion of natural farming practices through Panchagavya. The project also envisions the creation of livelihood-based opportunities for local youth and women. In the long term, the area is planned to be developed as a learning and training hub for eco-friendly agriculture and animal husbandry, with various skill-development programmes.
Speaking on the occasion, Malay Pit, Chairman of Swadhin Trust, said, “There are concrete plans to establish a Veterinary Medical College in Tripura in the near future, envisioned around this very initiative. Once established, the college will create opportunities for educated but unemployed youths to build meaningful careers as veterinary doctors and will generate large-scale employment.”
He further added that with government support, dairy farms can be developed with Swadhin Trust acting as a facilitator. “There is immense potential for modern cattle rearing and hatchery development in areas like Narkel Kunja. We aim to adopt advanced livestock management models inspired by international standards,” he said, seeking active cooperation from the State Government for successful implementation.
It is noteworthy that Swadhin Trust has already implemented several successful projects in Tripura, most prominently the Tripura Santiniketan Medical College, which enrolled students from 21 states in its very first academic year, earning a place in the World Book of Records. Hospital services, including IPD facilities, have commenced, and with government support, the institution aims to grow into a 1,100-bed super-specialty hospital.
Beyond healthcare and education, Swadhin Trust continues to work towards women empowerment by nurturing them as entrepreneurs and towards environmental conservation through initiatives such as planting one crore saplings every year.
Against this backdrop, there is strong optimism among the people of Tripura that the Go-Mata Seva Kendra and the proposed Veterinary Medical College will not only benefit the state but also contribute to the larger national interest.
